Lupus Photosensitivity

Lupus Photosensitivity is a deal itself. I have been about 17 years old when I have experienced attack of rash on my face and on my chest as a result of reaction on the Sun. I didn't know that time. I was also so exhausted. I was terribly scared that I am going to die. I was on a holiday with my mum and it was making it even worse. I didn't want to see a doctor abroad, because I wasn't sure about my English at that time. I just slept the whole day. I cannot imagine how my mum was scared. It didn't go away quickly, but I just took it easy and realized that it should be a reaction on the Sun. It was really warm and the Sun was much more stronger than I experience before. So, I have started to protect myself using glasses, hat and I have tried to be in shade and not get exposed to the Sun more than it was needed. And it helped. After that I had few years without any reaction until about age of 28 when it started to appear again in a weaker form every first spring Sun.

Photosensitivity is generally reaction of the skin to the sunlight. People often call it allergy on the Sun. How funny, I have been studying solar wind and I have been called to be allergic to the Sun. How perfect irony of the life. I am finding such things in my life quite often. My whole life is one big irony.

Anyway, photosensitivity is imunne system reaction to the sunlight. Actually, it has been linked to many other problems such as lupus in the first place, but also to contact with certain chemicals, or to herbs in shampoos or creams, or some medicines. I am calling it generally sensitivity to whatever normal in normal life. :-)

Symptoms of the photosensitivity include red rash, with blisters or raised spots. It is itching or burning many times. Symptoms last several days. Many people experience reactions which are getting easier with the continuous exposure to the Sun. However you have to be careful. Things tend to vary from person to person. As the best treatment I found helpful some kind of calming medication and some creams containing cortisone. But of course prevention is the best.

What I was really surprised here in Finland, that I am getting here reactions on the sunlight even in spring when the temperature are well below the zero. I was always connecting it with summer and hot weather. It is important to protect any time. Creams, glasses, hats.

Have a nice day!!
