Herpes and ulcers on the lips

Oral herpes is an infection caused by the herpes simplex virus. The virus causes painful on the lips, gums, tongue, inside the cheeks. It can also cause fever or muscle pain. Herpes simplex virus affects only humans.

People with lupus and other autoimunne diseases complain about ulcer and herpes on the lips and around the mouth. You can be careful how you want and still you get it. It hurts, you cannot eat and you cannot kiss anyone, your kids. My kids are asking me all the time for kiss and I have to refuse because I am scared to spread it on them. They do not understand and it is quite difficult and heartbreaking as well. So you do not suffer for only the pain but also you suffer inside. And I am not saying that it doesn't look nice and you really cannot do anything about it. I hate mostly the ulcers inside the mouth when you cannot eat almost anything, because it is really sore.

There are many different triggers to herpes, but let's focus on what is related to me, or us. The cold and the fever, and the exposure to the Sun trigger the oral herpes and sores, as well as hormonal changes and stress. Also the weakened imunne system triggers the herpes. The problem is that the imunne system overacts and attacks your own body, having the autoimunne diseases, so you need to take medication to supress the imunne system. Do you follow the nice circle people with lupus or similar diseases undergo? Sometimes it is to choose what is less worse for you. Nobody wins in longer term. Which means that you are the only looser in the end.

Some people even need to stay in the hospital, so do not underrate the situation. People may suffer for sever herpes, causing difficulties to eat or drink, and in the end even dehydration. Also the infection may spread to the other organs. And also newborns needed to be treated in the hospital due to life threatening aspects.

The recurrent herpes can also lead into different complications, including already mentioned spreading of the virus to other parts of the skin. As it gets closer to the eye area, it can lead to scarring of the cornea and loss of the vision.

So if you see me with anything on my lips, it means that I am in stage of total madness of washing my hands all the time, using all kind of antiseptic sprays and gels. And completely crazy of touching anything. When I was having small kids I was able to use gloves and protective masks. I am very sensitive when someone wants to shake hands and I am not able to wash my hands with proper soap, in best case not having my antiseptic spray. I am currently trying to leave it at home.

My experience with herpes is only supporting. Using a lot of balsam not to allow the lips get dry and possible spreading. I am washing everything what can touch my lips or face. I am using Zovirax cream (and whatever modification in any country). I am not sure that it would heal the herpes, but it helps to lower the pain and spreading it. I am using this cream in any time I have the feeling that it shows up. As soon as possible you use it, the shorter time you have the herpes. But even that it is not the rule. If it really hurt I am using ibuprofen painkiller. The only solution is, do not touch it and let it be, and drink a lot of water not to get dehydrated.
