When mentioning Sauna I mean Finnish Sauna, that is so common thing in Finland and my Finnish friends understand. I think it is lifestyle, cultural thing as well. You cannot have cottage or any similar happening (Midsummer, Christmas, parties) without sauna and in the best case swimming in frozen, cold sea or freezing lake. I have tried both, or all. And I love it.
However there is a small issue. Lupus. It really shows how people react differently on different things. Sauna is generally recommended, because you can rest there, your muscles get relaxed, your mind is usually blown away, it is really good for cardiovascular system. Ok, it is very positive in very wide sense. However, not for everybody. First, your heart has to be in a good shape to be able to react properly on such high temperatures, or changes. The second you need to like hot. Somebody just cannot exist in higher temperature from different points, such as thyroid or not able to sweat, which is quite bad issue.
And there is a Lupus. So far I didn't find anything against it, almost rather recommendations. But the very first question from a doctor, when I was suspected from having an autoimunne disease for the first time, was how I react on Sauna. I have answered that I really like sauna, and I feel very relaxed after that but the next morning typically, or already during the night, I suffer for a headaches, stiffness, and back pain and different strange pains everywhere around my body. But because I didn't have any deeper experience I was thinking that it could be just normal reaction. I didn't know that healthy people do not suffer for pains as I do. And doctor has answered me that it is really common reaction for rheumatic diseases. So, you decide what is the best for you.
I can write why Sauna is good, but I will rather say why I still go to sauna instead. We have sauna at home. We have extremely small bathroom and still we have very tiny cute sauna there. The very advantage is that it gets quickly warm, which means saving time and money from electricity. Also you get privacy. Not me, but my husband gets. I have always my kids around :-). I am never alone. But yes, still lonely. Never mind, that is different topic.
When I am really cold, or I have cold I go to sauna because I either hope I will get better, or I just need to get warmer. I like the relax time in sauna of the heat which goes through the body and muscles. And the evening after sauna I feel really light, as no problems are existing at all. That sounds too highflown but somehow like that. Unfortunately, during the night I suffer for a pain in the body, which I cannot define. It feels like burning, aching. And I am having headaches. It feels like having stiff neck pain. I hate it.
I am still looking for the right balance, what I want, what I like and what I need. And I will come back to this topic. Because Finnish Sauna is after all culture. :-)
Have a nice day and beautiful week!!
