This could be something like essay in a high school. But do not judge me :-).
I have visited theater with my husband in Tallinn yesterday afternoon. We have made short cruise there to see a Ballet gala to celebrate 100 years of Estonian national ballet. It was quite nice selection of different ballet pieces accompanied by talks in Estonian. It was just a bit longer that it was planned and we had booked table in fancy restaurant. Which was quite sad and we had to make very short dinner, which I called proper fast food. We agreed to come there again and enjoy the meal properly. I can only recommend that. It was very old building in medieval style in the main square and the actual restaurant was in the second floor with a beautiful view through gothic windows on the square with the church. I didn't have time to make any special picture. And to say true, the square is full of restaurant in all kind of styles, so you can just go and pick the correct one. The better restaurant is the most probably you need to make a reservation for the table. Clearly.
But let's go back to the ballet.
When watching the dancers I was wondering about being a woman. I am so happy for being a woman. If you are let's say too pinkish and girlish, it is ok, because you are a woman. If you like let's say female stuff, it is ok because you are a woman. If you like so called male stuff, such as cars and planes, it is ok because you are a woman. If you don't like girlish things, it is ok because you are a woman. I am not sure if you understand. You can choose whatever you want and you will be smart and brave girl. That's how I want to rise my kids.
What I really do not like in the ballet that the male dancers looked as a piece of body. Woman was always treated with tact, they were all covered in beautiful dresses with tiaras or pure simple dresses or some kind of dress looking as you would go to the gym. But some of the male dancers hardly had any clothes. Just tiny tiny nylons exhibiting generally everything. It felt like a piece of body without any soul. They all had strong makeup compared to female part. I do not want to judge. That is their choose. At least I hope so. It just felt incomparable.
Well you can see, that I wasn't watching everything. Some of the pieces were far beyond my taste. I wasn't sure what it supposed to be or what it was expected to be. Generally it was artistic. I clearly want something simple and classical to enjoy. But the stage was elegant and simply fitting all styles. I even didn't realize how many styles exist and the boarders are occasionally not clear. Especially in one piece I wasn't sure whether it was just pure interpretation of the music at the moment. I was scared that the dancer will kill someone and I didn't like the accompanied life music either. Playback music was used for the rest of the performances.
Anyway I have really enjoy the evening. Tallinn is really beautiful small capital city with really nice atmosphere.
Have a nice Vappu!!
