I have written about this topic already in this article Scleroderma and fingers. I hope the link will work. I have currently problems with my left wrist and left ankle. I would be interested whether there is a link about left/right side of the body pain. I know that pain in lupus case is usually symmetrical, but rather in the sense of both wrists or both ankles. But on the other hand my skin is dryer and scratchy more on the right hand.
It is not visible so clearly, but those little scratchy places on my fingers are very painful. I do not like to use rubber gloves when washing kitchen or dishes. Well, we have dishwasher but sometimes you need to wash some stuff. It burns. These places hurt typical where the skin is the most exposed, such as where I am holding book, holding cup, binding shoes etc.
I feel quite naked right now. But I will show that in case of scleroderma problems with dry and bloody skin is not only problem of hands. It is not that super visible, but I have dry skin places above the ankle. It is called calcium deposits and most of the time you can leave them alone. I really cannot show super ugly heels. When they are open they are pretty painful to walk. It wouldn't be so bad, but as you walk the skin becomes overloaded and breaks. That hurts. And it can get infected.
There is no medication for the calcinosis, however what I have tried and it really worked was wax treatment. I have tried it on my hand occupational therapy. And I would like to buy one wax bath to my home that I can use it for my feet as well. It helps also for relaxation and warming painful joins.
What is really annoying is ulceration of the skin. Wherever and whenever you knock or scratch ulcers may develop. The only protection from accidents could be for example trousers instead of the skirt, or to wear tights. I cannot be bare foot, which is quite unhandy during summer. Be careful to use strong or powerful soaps or detergents.
Itching of the skin is another quite common problem. It requires regular moisturising. I would like to try some anti-itching creams from pharmacy. If anyone has tip I would be very happy to hear it.
I have my kids at home for the hiihtoloma, so I hope that this made sense :-).
Have a nice day and if you are somewhere on a holiday, have a nice holiday free of pain :-).
