Among all of my problems, I was also diagnosed by Supraventricular Tachycardia. Among typical symptoms belong palpitation, chest pain, dizziness, sweating, fatigue, tightness and pain in the throat. Sometimes those things can be developed by using alcohol or smoking. But not in my case. I have it inherited from my mum's side ;-(.
This problem is usually treated if episodes of palpitations occur more frequently or there is another type of risk. First they try to use medication, if that doesn't help, then they plan operation. They have said that it is quite invasive operation but the probability of success is about 90 per cent. I have agreed. Because I wasn't any emergency patient I had to wait about 6 months. The timing wasn't perfect for me because of the life happenings occurring around it. But I still went through it and here is my experience about it.
Generally catheter ablation is a procedure to burn out some areas of the hearts which are causing arrhytmia. Thin wires are inserted in the groin or neck into the vein up to the heart. The procedure takes in average about 4 hours and the recovery then about 1 to 2 days.
We had to plan it the way that my husband was at home taking kids to daycare and back home while I went to the hospital early in the morning. I wasn't scared at all. I didn't have time read anything about the procedure and I even didn't try to border. My task was to come there and be there. After registration I got intravenous needles to my hand and hospital clothing. After quite long time nurse came for me and took me to the operation room. The room looked like from Star Trek movie. Normally I would be excited about it, except now. That time I started to shake as I would be freezing and you could clearly see it. They have put all kind of electrodes all around my body, pulse measuring to another hand, some medications and liquids into intravenous injections. They covered me and gave me injection into part of the body where the catheter supposed to go. Not very comfortable, but I could handle it. So many people was around me. I was really shaking and freezing. I was supposed to be awake for the whole time of the operation and I could see on the huge screen what they are supposed to see. Even my heart.
The whole procedure took about 5 hours, and it wasn't very nice. Doctor, whose age was just about mine, found luckily the areas quite quickly, but the burning procedure was needed to be repeated twice. The whole time they were irritating my heart, causing strong and painful palpitations. After that they used some medication which felt like my heart was stopped for a second. Such a huge pressure and weight on my chest. And that I had to undergo twice. I was so exhausted. I wanted to sleep. I couldn´t move and I started to be really in pain. When it was all over I was attached to the mobile heart monitor and they were checking the wound all the time. They couldn't stop bleeding but after several hours it finally succeeded and I was released to go home and rest there. Well, not in my case of having two little wild lovely girls. But I had hard time to walk, so kids kind of understood. The whole procedure was clearly successful at that time. And I hope I won't need this minimally for a long time.
Have a nice day!!
