Finnish weather

Just shortly about Finnish weather, nowadays

When I came to Finland, almost 10 years ago, the winter, I mean the real winter with snow and cold and freezing temperatures, lasted from October until March. Now? We have hardly any ice, or snow. The snow looks like a sugar spread around.

Before I was skiing to work, skating everyday, walking on frozen sea and I even got sick of snow in the end of the March. Of course you can say that at least it gets warmer all over the year. But nope. Last summer didn't occurred. We had kind of continuous autumn.
But even the winter is not what it was used to be, as a mother of two wild kids, I have to find things to entertain them. Making snow angel on the sand is a good hint. 😇

Anyway, the times have changed. Kids are not building snowmen anymore. They are building Olaf. If you do not know, Frozen fairy tale. Or better to say real Frozen fever.
I miss going to skate on the open ice. There are plenty of places the Helsinki area, but because of the unpredictable weather, you cannot plan anything. I used to skate almost everyday after work. It was refreshing and so romantic. When I was small we have been skating on the frozen lakes. Where are the times? Did you also skate outside? Our kids won't know that. I have put my older daughter to skate in the club that she learns to skate, so she knows only cold and boring ice halls. About figure skating some other time.
What I really do not like is a changing weather during a very short period.  One week is snowing as crazy, we had snow storm last week, and the other is raining so what is left is just slippery and annoying. I am still using a pram for my little one and I am  getting stuck practically everywhere. I am just tired and I want already summer please, or at least spring or something similar to it.
